Press Media Wire (Press Release) - Nov 23,2009 - PressMediaWire - (Eagle River, Wisconsin) - The Literacy Task Force of Northern Wisconsin announced the appointment of educational author Marie Rippel to its board of directors at its annual meeting in November 2009. The Literacy Task Force is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families and individuals in north central Wisconsin who struggle with reading and spelling. Rippel, a resident of Eagle River, Wisconsin, is the author and co-author of several award-winning books aimed at beginning readers, including All About Spelling, the Beehive Reader series, and All About Homophones. "I'm grateful for the chance to help share the joy of reading with our friends and neighbors in Northern Wisconsin," said Rippel. "I've dedicated my career to helping children learn how to read and spell. Reading has always meant so much to me, personally. It's an honor to support the Literacy Task Force in any way I can." The Literacy Task Force of Northern Wisconsin provides tutoring for children and adults who struggle with spelling and reading. The nonprofit group also reaches out to area agencies, organizations, and schools with talks on literacy issues and raises funds to provide training scholarships. "One of our most important tasks is to train teachers, parents, and tutors to teach reading and spelling using the Orton-Gillingham approach," says Rippel. Orton-Gillingham is a multisensory, structured language program that actively involves the learner on a visual, auditory, and kinesthetic basis. "All of our publications at All About Learning Press are based on the Orton-Gillingham approach," Rippel says. "I'm passionate about this method." The Literacy Task Force of Northern Wisconsin organizes an Orton-Gillingham workshop through Nicolet College in Rhinelander for teachers, parents, and tutors. The workshop attracts people from all around the state of Wisconsin, says Rippel. "In the past four years, over sixty trainees have completed the intensive 60-hour training course." "Reading is the cornerstone of success in our society," says Rippel. "You can't imagine how gratifying it is to share the gift of literacy. I live for those 'aha!' moments when a student realizes he or she has finally decoded the written word. It's very moving." About All About Learning Press Founded in 2006, All About Learning Press produces research-based language arts curricula for the school and homeschool market. In all of their publications, each lesson is tightly focused around one concept that the child can master and immediately apply in all schoolwork, regardless of subject matter. The popular and effective All About Spelling program and the Beehive Reader series are a fundamental part of the All About Learning Press educational product line. # # # #
