in each grade level, are now on display at www.HawaiiStatehoodApparel.com. The winners, by grade level, are: Winners in the remaining grades will be announced over the next few weeks.
Hawaiian

announced that both the winners and the finalists will have their
designs featured on screen-printed t-shirts available for wholesale
purchase through HawaiiStatehoodApparel.com starting this month.
“Choosing
just one winner in each grade level was a huge challenge,” said Alfano.
“With 1,063 entries, we had a wealth of designs to choose from. We’re
so grateful to all the students, teachers, principals and school
administrators who made this contest possible. And in particular we
want to acknowledge those teachers who used our contest to help enrich
their lessons on Hawaii history.”
Students included a number of
classic Hawaii icons in their Statehood Anniversary designs, including
Hawaii's state flag, Hula dancers, hibiscus flowers, surfboards,
tropical sunsets, outrigger canoes, ukuleles, Kamehameha the Great,
palm trees, sea turtles, beaches, and other Polynesian design motifs.
Every
winning t-shirt designer will receive a $100 U.S. Savings Bond, plus 50
t-shirts bearing their original artwork. And each winner's and
finalists’ school will earn 5% of the net profits from sales of their
winning design, which will be available in wholesale quantities at HawaiiStatehoodApparel.com.
Alfano continued, "Because we received so many high-quality entries, we really felt we had to showcase finalists’ designs on HawaiiStatehoodApparel.com as well as the winning designs. These students just amazed us with their creativity and design skills."
“The Hawaii Statehood Commission
is planning a slate of educational events for 2009,” says Alfano, “and
we feel privileged to be supporting their efforts, encouraging Hawaiian
schoolchildren to learn about our nation’s 50th state. As the tag line
